NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming and came about when a mathematician, Richard Bandler, and a linguist, John Grinder, studied the work of three great psychotherapists - Fritz Perls, Milton Erickson and Virginia Satir.

Perls was the founder of Gestalt, Erickson the first clinical hypnotherapist and Satir the pioneer of Family Therapy.

NLP offers exceptional insights and techniques into the way human beings create their subjective experience, relate and interact with one another, and successfully realise their goals in the world.

It has been referred to as ‘the study of human excellence’, which is certainly one of its key features, as its methodology enables an accurate model of any human behaviour to be observed, recorded and then replicated by someone else.

NLP is also a great coaching tool as it provides many techniques and exercises for exploring the day-to-day challenges and opportunities that all of us face. It pays attention to the language we use and the internal experience we create of the outside world. Because of this NLP can readily facilitate change processes at the cognitive, emotional and behavioural levels.

On its own NLP provides many ideas and insights about the human condition, but when combined with a therapeutic model like Psychosynthesis the two complement one another to even great effect.
