Psychosynthesis

Psychosynthesis is a powerful, experiential and holistic way of working with individuals, groups and organisations seeking positive change. In essence it’s a model for growth, through insight, understanding and integration. Its aims are simple: self discovery, responsibility and freedom.

Psychosynthesis is an excellent approach to use in a business context, because it successfully brings together many different theories about human nature in a way that lends itself to transformation.

Robert uses psychosynthesis as his main theoretical model. It is a rich, dynamic and creative theory of the human condition. One of its most useful aspects is its scalability, as it can be equally well applied to individuals, teams or in fact whole communities. Even humanity itself.

As a transpersonal psychology conceived of by Roberto Assagioli, an Italian psychoanalyst based in Florence, it has also become well established in the fields of conflict resolution, education, health care and psychotherapy.

Assagioli was a student of Freud and a contemporary of Jung. Much of his model owes itself to their work, along with his own interest in both Western and Eastern philosophy.

Psychosynthesis proposes we each have an intrinsic purpose and potential, which we can discover, align ourselves to and realise, and that although we are made up of many different, often conflicting parts, we are in fact essentially whole and complete.

Psychosynthesis also proposes that we embody fundamental qualities such as Strength, Beauty, Love, Value and Truth. These essential qualities can be evoked, experienced and expressed in the world.

As an holistic model of human nature this optimistic view of our inner world is complemented by an understanding of our shadow or dark side. This is the aspect of ourselves that is split off from conscious awareness.

Whilst our shadow may initially seem bad, frightening or unpleasant, great treasures lie here if we are willing to shine the light of conscious awareness towards it. Further enquiry reveals its true nature, bringing us greater depth and understanding of ourselves and others.

Robert is in the process of completing three years of training at the Psychosynthesis & Education Trust in London. The course is accredited by the BACP and the University of East London.

The Trust was founded in 1965 and is the oldest psychosynthesis training organisation in the UK. It was also only the second training centre in the country to gain BACP accreditation for its courses.
